Penn Battle II Spinning Fishing Reel
We are big fans of the Penn Battle series. The reels resemble art in this series. And that’s not the only redeeming quality.
Penn Battle II sits at a higher price range than all the other reels mentioned so far.
By now you must be thinking why would I buy a more expensive reel when I already have the affordable one? The answer is there are some companies that mix quality with quantity, and do it well. Penn is one of those companies. Sturdy, trustworthy and simply amazing.
There are certain obvious differences in Penn Battle II that put it in a separate group, away from Penn battle original. For example the full metal body, which makes this one beast of a reel.
The side plate and rotor are salt resistant and made of metal as well. If catching big saltwater fishes are your thing then go with this reel with your eyes cold. It’ll not disappoint.
The high tech ( HT- 100) carbon fiber drag system and five totally shielded stainless steel balls coupled with instant anti reverse bearing, are guaranteed to provide ultrasmooth casting.
And for those who forget about line, they have fitted it with a supraline spool that has line capacity rings to remind you.

Because of its lightweight, it’d be the perfect fishing tool to carry on a trip. As it would feel like no weight is added to your rod and you surely won’t get a wrist ache.

Apart from these features it’s also fitted with extra durable aluminum handles and triple disc carbon drag washers. This handle can be adjusted according to your hand orientation.
The reel has the potential of welding pure power because of its first rate drag system. It offers remarkable stopping power. So big fish or small, the angler is the ultimate winner. - High quality inner parts
- Superior drag power
- Great design
- Light weight
- Comes with a free spool
- The amount of line it holds is lacking. Maybe that’s why they give away the free free spool.
- The aluminum handle doesn’t stay tight
What should I look for?
While buying anything, the bottom line is what the buyer’s needs are. The probability is, it might vary from the next person. That is why you should look for a reel that serves your purpose and fulfills your requirements. Not one that everyone is buying. But there are some common guidelines you should keep in mind.
Like longevity. Durability and longevity are very important factors because you should get the value for your money from a reel. And that could only happen if it lasts for a long time. So look for one with a graphite or aluminum frame. While aluminum is the better choice, graphite is corrosion resistant. So it’s a tough choice.
Then there’s the weight of the package. While most of the anglers I know prefer lightweight reels, my dad is an exception. He actually prefers heavier reels because he grew up with them. If you like your reels to be a bit beefier then we’ve got one for you as well.
Apart from these two there are advanced factors like gear ratio and line capacity. Line capacity is again a need based factor. Different lb lines are perfect for different sized reels. And in case of gear ratio 6.0 is the universal value. More than that is used for rods that need to move like jigging etc. Lesser than that is used for heavier style. Like crankbait and dive.
This is where we say goodbye to you. We hope we’ve provided you with enough knowledge to make an informed decision. Remember us if you find the perfect reel! Thank you for reading.
